Frequent natural disasters severely hamper the development process in the developing countries. According to United Nations report, impoverished areas are the most susceptible to catastrophic damage from natural disasters, due to a reduced capacity to prevent damage pre and during the disaster as well as recover post-disaster. About 97% of all reported disaster related deaths occur in these developing countries.
Leveraging its large base of socially committed volunteers, SMVS Charities has developed a mechanism where it is always ready for quick response to natural disasters. In times of natural calamities like earthquake, heavy floods or cyclones, volunteers from SMVS Charities quickly reach the affected areas and provide immediate relief.
Apart from providing relief and assistance after the disasters, SMVS Charities is also developing its capacity to initiate disaster mitigation activities, especially through spreading awareness and livelihood strengthening.
